Your career in phlebotomy starts with the basics. The Introduction to Phlebotomy Course or longer Level 3 phlebotomy. This is where you will learn the foundational skills of Vein Finding, Venepuncture and basic Infection Control and Patient Safety, which you can go on to use for cannulation, IV therapy, blood letting. But let’s walk before we can run!

Add the Live Bloods Experience to get that first blood done in a friendly and educational environment. We call it ‘one for confidence’.

It may also be worth taking the Blood Test & Interpretation course at this stage to understand more about specific common blood tests, and a better understanding of what high and low results might mean.

If your current place of work don’t already offer these, it’s also really important to boost your CV with foundational courses like Safeguarding, Health & Safety, Infection Control, Informed Consent, Data Protection and Basic Life Support. These 6 courses are the bare minimum we expect from all of our Mobile Phlebotomists.

Now it is time to add additional skills to your skillset. More tools in your toolbox mean you can take on tougher blood draws. Courses like Advanced Venepuncture Techniques, Paediatric Phlebotomy, Cannulation, ECG Interpretation and Basic Obs will make you a far more useful, multi skilled phlebotomist.

You will also want to start increasing your clinical experience and showing your competency through one of our competency options.

Once you have mastered the Developmental Skills, you can add skills that can turn your Foundational Venepuncture skills into a real, profitable service. IV therapy, Therapeutic Blood Letting and PRP therapy are all just a small step on from those basic phlebotomy skills. And they lead the way to Intra Muscular Vitamin therapy, and a range of other IM treatments.
