COURSE CONTENT
This is an optional upgrade to the CPD Venepuncture Practices & Techniques course.
Competence for these courses are assessed on vein blocks and training arms. However, because our training centre is based in a GP surgery, we are able to offer the opportunity to take a blood sample from your fellow students or the trainer.
This relies on enough students to volunteer, as well as increased health and safety considerations, and therefore a small additional supplemental payment is required if you want to take advantage of this opportunity.
Getting that first blood completed in a friendly and constructive environment is an invaluable experience that will give you the confidence to take more bloods going forward.
We call this: ‘One for confidence’.
WHO IS THIS COURSE FOR?
Anyone attending the CPD Venepuncture Practices & Techniques course.
It is recommended for most participants, however, if you already have patients and colleagues ready to volunteer at your clinic, then this may not be necessary.
EQUIPMENT
You will use a selection of venepuncture equipment to take real blood from a real volunteer.
TIMINGS
This experience happens at the end of a normal day of training. Depending on how many participants have opted in, this could take 30 minutes to an hour after the normal course has ended.
GROUP SIZES
Group sizes are kept small, to get the best 1:1 experience with the trainers. Minimum group size is 1. Maximum group size is 8.
ACCREDITATION
This experience does not produce an additional certificate.
However, we will record this blood draw on a Record of Competency as your first successful blood draw. You can then build on this in your own clinic, or as part of one of our CPD Competency Courses.
REFRESHMENT
Lunch and refreshments will be provided throughout the course. Kettle and microwave facilities are also available. Please let us know if you have any dietary requirements.
LOCATION
Courses are either delivered in our Training Centre in Bakersfield Medical Centre in Nottingham, or in Chase Health, Wimbledon in London.
