COURSE CONTENT
Intravenous (IV) cannulation is a useful way for a phlebotomist to utilise their skill at finding veins. Blood can be drawn using a cannula, and the cannula can be prepped for a nurse or other qualified individual to administer medications.
This half day course concentrates on the specific skill of cannulation to an NHS standard. You will of course get plenty of time to practice and perfect the technique, but the course also goes into:
- Selecting an appropriate site for a cannula.
- Infection control considerations.
- Indications and contraindications of use.
- Different types of equipment.
- VIPS scales and aftercare.
- Potential complications.
- Taking blood through a cannula.

We often train aesthetic beauticians and wellness therapists, who plan to provide vitamin drips for their clients, as well as a variety of healthcare professionals.
EQUIPMENT
You will train using training aids, including arms and hands, and a variety of cannulation equipment.
