FAQs

At Bloods & beyond we love blood, but not in a weird way! We manage the largest team of mobile phlebotomists in the country, covering most of the UK, enabling a number of labs and clinics to reach people in the comfort of their own homes, for both NHS and private blood tests.

We also specialise in training and finding jobs for phlebotomists. Guiding trainee phlebotomists on a pathway from absolute beginner, to successful clinician, either joining our team of mobile phlebotomists, starting their own clinic, or finding a permanent home with any of our recruitment partners.
Having blood taken in your own home is as safe as any clinical setting. It became far more popular during the COVID-19 pandemic, and many of our phlebotomists got their first taste of mobile phlebotomy after working the Office of National Statistics taking blood samples for the national COVID-19 study.

To keep your mind at ease, we screen all of our phlebotomists, ensuring they have up to date DBS checks and regularly refreshed training, including Basic Life Support.
All of our courses are provided by our sister company iN phlebotomy training.

Most courses are accredited by the CPD certification service, which means they are internationally recognised as part of your portfolio of training.

Our First Aid courses are accredited by TQUK, which allows us to deliver Level 3 QCF courses.
You will need to have some supervised, clinical experience first. Working in the community means you have no back up, so you need to be able to deal with all types of veins.

You can start your journey by taking our CPD Venepuncture Practices & Techniques course. Our sister company, iN phlebotomy recruiting, can then work with you to find clinical experience.

If you already have this experience, we will go through due diligence with you, which will include making sure you have an up to date DBS, insurance, and various other training. If you don't already have this, we can help you to get it.

And hopefully it won't be long before we're sending you on appointments.
At Bloods & beyond we are proud of being at the very cutting edge of blood services.

One of the latest game changing innovations is rapid, on-site testing

Rapid testing uses a finger prick test and a revolutionary new portable lab device to test your blood straight away, in your own home. Within 5 - 15 mins, your results are emailed to you from a private GP, with a full report of what they mean and recommendations of what you can do next.

Traditionally, you would normally buy a kit that is sent you, you would have to struggle to take your own blood, and then send the sample back to the lab, receiving your results a few days later. With these rapid tests, there is no need to wait, and one of our phlebotomists will take your blood and analyse it on the spot.

Finger prick tests are notoriously unreliable, as they degrade in the post. These rapid tests are far more reliable, because the blood is used while it is still fresh, moments after it has been taken.

The finger prick testing process itself is also made easier by a new device which literally sucks the blood straight out of your finger, so there is no messiness, and no concerns over not being able to collect enough blood for the test.
Currently we can offer:

HBA1C (Diabetes) £40 - Are you experiencing symptoms of type 2 diabetes such as fatigue or feeling thirsty all the time? Maybe you’re at increased risk of this condition due to factors such as a family history, a medical condition like heart disease or PCOS, being overweight, or a sedentary lifestyle.

By checking your average blood sugar level over the past 8–12 weeks, the Diabetes (HbA1c) Blood Test can help detect type 2 diabetes. As this condition can be reversed in its early stages, this test may help you take early action to improve your health and wellbeing.

CRP (Inflammation) £35 - Are you concerned that lifestyle factors could be increasing your risk of inflammation? These could include an unhealthy diet, being overweight, not taking regular exercise, or smoking.

Our high sensitivity C-reactive protein (hs-CRP) test is sensitive enough to pick up even the lowest level of inflammation, which can help you build a picture of your risk of cardiovascular disease.

PSA £60 - Are you over 50, over 45 and of black ethnicity, or do you have strong family history of prostate cancer? Perhaps you’d like to track your PSA level over time to check for changes.

Our PSA Blood Test can detect if you have a raised PSA level, which can help detect prostate cancer and let you take early action.
